Gavin McLachlan is widely recognised as one of South Africa’s leading experts in this field.
A partner and director at Randles Attorneys since 1984, Gavin McLachlan is a councillor of the KwaZulu-Natal Law Society since 2011 and chairs its Library Committee, I T and Financial Intelligence Centre Committees, having set up its website and successful online library service in 1998.
Gavin, amongst other roles, is also the chairperson of the Law Society of South Africa’s E- Law/ I T Committee, a member of the Internet Governance Workgroup set up by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications and is currently involved in the social chamber and an e- justice policy development group as well, having been involved in the Green Paper and White Paper processes for the new national integrated communications policy. He is also currently involved as a presenter in a national series of workshops about the threats and benefits of internet and general cyber law processes as far as legal practitioners are concerned for the national legal education division.
Gavin has been involved in the drafting processes of the Protection of Personal Information Act, the Cybercrime and Cyber security Bill and the newly revised eDeeds Registries Amendment Bill.
